United Health Care soon will be offering a new set of benefit plans for railroad employees whose coverage may cease under their active-employee health-care plans, but who are not yet eligible to participate in Medicare.

The new benefit plans – three in all -- will be under Policy GA-23111, and were designed by the Cooperating Railway Labor Organizations in conjunction with United Health Care.

The new plans will be known as Plan A, Plan B and Plan C, each with new options and different cost and plan designs. They will replace the current Plan B and Plan C. There is no current Plan A.

The open enrollment for these plans will begin in April and continue through May, with coverage to begin June 1.
